What is counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling and Psychotherapy are interchangeable words, although the latter is usually long-term.
During Counselling, I will offer you a safe and confidential space to explore with me any issues you would like to bring to the session. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ in counselling and I will invite you to be yourself and share your deepest concerns with me without the fear of being judged or misunderstood.
Counselling can deal with such events as the end of a relationship, loss of a job or death of someone close, and also help you cope with aspects of your life that you feel unable to change. This could include your job, relationships, sexuality, or self-esteem. I offer you the chance to talk about difficult or painful life experiences in a safe place with an experienced and qualified practitioner. This means that I will listen, try to understand you empathically, will accept what you offer and will not judge you.
What to expect
Once you have contacted me, we can arrange for a confidential initial counselling assessment. An initial counselling assessment lasts 50 minutes long; you will be able to discuss your difficulties and I will ask you questions in order to assess your counselling needs and whether counselling may help you. The initial session gives us an opportunity to meet and for you to get a sense of who I am and how I work. There is no obligation to book further sessions.
If we decide to work together, we will, if possible, establish a regular weekly session at my practice in Enfield Town. If the work is to be short-term, we will agree on the focus for the work and the number of sessions, usually 6 to start but this can be extended as we go. If the work appears to require a longer-term approach, we may initially start with 6 sessions and then review before deciding to continue on an open-ended basis.
Clients will not be given advice or told what to do, but encouraged to use the time to explore their thoughts and feelings, and discover what it is they want to achieve during their time in therapy. In some instances I will be able to help clients develop self-management and coping strategies.

“I was made to feel comfortable and provided with the space to think/talk about things at my pace. Excellent counselling!”
“I always felt better when leaving.”
